Meet Claartje van Haaren, HR & Studio Manager
Tell us a little about you…
I’m Claartje and I am HR and Studio manager at REGGS. I sit right at the entrance of our studio. It’s a bright, open space with high ceilings and glass walls. I guess we have nothing to hide… As long as I can remember I always liked working with people, they are more vibrant than things, object, documents, ‘stuff’. That’s also why I started out as a teacher many years ago. Teaching children various subjects and having real conversations with them is so great. Plus, the job came with long summer holidays that allow you to travel to every continent.
What do you get out of your bed for?
The sun! Preferable in a place with a great view and the smell of nature. Once I’m up I love to go for a run or hit the gym.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
From people in the street, nature, movies, music, theater, books, history, flea markets, so many things are inspiring. I guess I’m a bit of a romantic because I particularly like old, second hand stuff with a story.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I have an obsessive hobby that I can perform for HOURS: making clothes. I make my own outfits and I produce much more than anyone can ever wear in a lifetime. I absolutely love beautiful fabrics, colors and shapes. It’s such a thrilling process to create something which doesn’t exists yet and I like things to be a bit more funky than what one finds in regular shops.
Which customer do you hope to work for?
I know this is not realistic but I would love to help out with the production of the costumes for a theater group or the NDT Ballet Company.
What are you most proud of in business terms?
My best job so far (!) was being the PA of a Czech designer/ architect, Borek Sipek. I loved his work a lot and started to work for him when he just moved to Amsterdam. He wasn’t very well-known in the Netherlands yet, but he grew out to become a notable designer. I think it’s such a wonderful experience to be part of the success of somebody you believe in.
Tell us something we probably don’t know about you
If you put a huge box of licorice next to me, I can assure you it will be empty within an hour. Sooo unhealthy, but so good!
